All eyes are on Vesa Toskala these days as the Maple Leafs try to steer through their first goaltending crisis since he came aboard 14 months ago.
Toskala's work had been sub-par before Monday night's 3-2 loss to Boston. He had a 3.24 goals-against average and .878 save percentage, both uncharacteristic compared to his career numbers. He gave up two goals on his first eight shots against Boston and three on 14, the last a backbreaker from Michael Ryder when he dropped down too early.
"He has to realize he hasn't played well," coach Ron Wilson said. "That first goal was obviously stoppable. They aren't good numbers, but the positive is we're taking (Tuesday) off and then three days until we play again (Saturday against Chicago) to get him where he needs to be."
